Omega Seamaster is the collection’s oldest line and it was launched in 1948 in order to coincide with the brand’s 100th Anniversary.
The Omega Seamaster was made for the British army at the end of WWII as a water-resistant wristwatch.
The model presented here is in excellent condition. A Superb quality vintage Swiss made wristwatch, gold plated case and backing with the Omega Seahorse symbol found on the Seamaster models.
The Seahorse Symbol was designed by an engraver who was working at the time for Omega by the name of Jean-Pierre Borle. Ornamental Hippocampus statues are found on the sides of most Venetian gondolas, on each side of the boat, as a symbol of protection for drivers and passengers of the gondola.
Jean-Pierre Borle was Inspired by the Hippocampus symbol also known sea-horse (a Greek mythological creature hence its name), which has the upper body of a horse with the lower body of a fish.
The dial is decorated with applied baton hour markers. This subtle, geometric element gives the watch a distinctly mid-century modern feel, reminiscent of the architecture and design of the era. The Omega name and insignia also appear on the dial, with the signature carrying over to the crown as well. Original glass in an exceptional condition for its age.
Rare Omega Automatic watch, Cal 562- 24 Jewels men’s watch from 1963, runs very well and keeps good time.
